Previously the Houston Civic Symphony announced repertoire for the 2010-2011 season.  Now we are happy to announce the dates for those events as well.

Friday, October 8, 2010, will be the date for the West Houston Assistance Ministries Benefit Concert.  More information about the time and location of that concert will be available soon.

Each of the following concerts will take place in the Dunham Theater in the Morris Cultural Arts Center on the campus of Houston Baptist University, 7502 Fondren Rd.

On Sunday, November 21, at 2:30 p.m. the orchestra will perform Liszt Les Preludes, Beethoven Symphony no. 8 in F major, op. 93, and Hindemith Symphonic Metamorphosis on Themes by Weber.  Former music director, Robert Linder, will be special guest conductor to conduct Les Preludes.

The concert on Friday, January 21, 2011, will feature one of our own musicians performing a concerto with the orchestra.  The musician and work to be performed will be determined in August, 2010.  The remainder of the program includes the Orchestral Suite no. 3 in D major, by J.S. Bach and The Firebird Suite, 1919 Version, by Igor Stravinsky.

The annual Young Artist Competition will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2011.  Winners selected on that day will perform with the orchestra in concert on Friday, March 4, 2011.  That concert will also include Overture to ‘Candide’ by Leonard Bernstein.

The season will conclude with another joint venture with the Choral Union from Houston Baptist University, John Yarrington, director.   On Friday, April 29, 2011, we will perform Overture to ‘Cosi Fan Tutti’ by W.A. Mozart before being joined by the chorus for a performances of Ein Deutches Requiem, the glorious work by Johannes Brahms.

Mark these dates and make plans to attend each of the concerts of the Houston Civic Symphony during the 2010-2011 season.
