If you are a music student in the 5th through the 12th grade, we invite you to participate in our Young Artist Competition. New and more exciting this year will be the opportunity for our winners to perform with the Houston Civic Symphony in concert on Friday, April 4, 2008. Other important dates for you to know include the application deadline on December 14th and the audition scheduled for Saturday, January 12, 2008.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT
The competition will be open to students in the fifth through twelfth grades residing in the Houston area. Students outside the greater Houston area are welcome to compete, but should be aware of rehearsal requirements for performance if a winner.  Previous winners of the Young Artist Competition are not eligible to compete within the same division.

MUSIC SELECTION
One movement of a large-scale work for solo instrument and orchestra is acceptable. The movement must be less than 15 minutes long. Orchestra accompaniment parts must be readily available and approved by the Houston Civic Symphony Music Director. Memory work is suggested, but not required.

PRIZES
Each first-prize Senior Division winner will be awarded a $200 scholarship, and the opportunity to perform with the Houston Civic Symphony at the Spring Concert to be held on Saturday, April 4, 2008. 
Each first-prize Junior Division winner will be awarded a $100 scholarship, and the opportunity to perform with the Houston Civic Symphony at the Spring Concert to be held on Saturday, April 4, 2008. 

Each second-prize winner in the senior division will receive a $100 scholarship. Each second-prize Junior Division winner will be awarded a $50 scholarship.
