EmailMusic Director, Dr. Brian Runnels, will start the concert with the stirring work for brass, Fanfare to La Peri by the modern French composer Paul Dukas. Dukas is best known for his piece The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. Fanfare is also a brilliant and often performed work. Associate Conductor Michael Isadore will then conduct the orchestra for the haunting Prelude to The Afternoon of a Faun by French impressionist composer Claude Debussy (1862-1918).

Houston Civic Symphony holds auditions for orchestra musicians in August each summer. If you are interested in joining the Symphony during the September through May concert season, you may contact the Personnel Director at 713 743-2049, or through this website to learn how that may be done.
If auditioning, you will be notified of the exact time and place as noted below. All members of Houston Civic Symphony are volunteers. As a general rule, auditioning string players who meet the standards of the orchestra will be invited to join. Invitations to join other sections will depend on vacancies. All qualified players in all sections are invited to audition, as substitute players are often invited to perform with the orchestra on a concert by concert basis.
